Abstract

Students and teachers in Computer Science field have considered Java as an essential programming language to learn for many years. To support activities of teachers and students in programming learning, a web-based system has been developed called the Java Programming Learning Assistant System (JPLAS). Code Writing Problem (CWP) is one of the exercise problems in JPLAS. It verifies student answer codes using test codes by running them on JUnit. Currently, most teachers manually verify answer codes, which may cause errors, slow feedback, and differences in assessment standards between teachers. In this paper, we present a test code approach for assignments in an existing basic Java programming course. For evaluations, we made test codes for some assignments in the basic Java programming course at Malang State Polytechnic, Indonesia, and applied them to existing student answer codes. The results confirm both the efficacy and validity. © 2024 IEEE.
