Teak sawdust is a waste that is quite abundant, but unfortunately it has not been widely used. To increase the use value of teak sawdust, it can be used as activated carbon or adsorbent. This study aims to make activated carbon from teak sawdust as an adsorbent with the influence of pyrolysis temperature and NaOH activator concentration on the quality of the activated carbon which is in accordance with SII.0258-88, then the analysis results in accordance with SII.0258-88 will be used for nickel adsorption. The pyrolysis process was carried out with variable temperatures of 300°C, 325°C, 350°C, 375°C, and 400°C, which was later activated with a concentration of 0.5 N, 1 N, 2 N, and 4 N of NaOH. The results show that the best test result for activated carbon is at a temperature of 375°C and NaOH activator concentration of 1 N. The test results include 3% moisture content, 9% ash content, 34.5% volatile matter content and 53.7% fixed carbon content. Activated carbon from pyrolysis can reduce nickel content in electroplating waste by 27.94%. © 2023 Author(s).
