A new variable switching frequency is proposed to reduce the output current ripple of single-phase PWM inverters. This proposed method will keep the peak-to-peak output current ripple constant, instead of varying as the function of current angle in the conventional constant switching frequency operation. By keeping the constant peak-to-peak current ripple, the output current ripple can be reduced without sacrificing the efficiency. Analytical expression for the optimum switching frequency variation is derived. Experiment results are included to show and verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2017, School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics. All rights reserved.
