Abstract

Modification of the turbocharger and supercharger (electric charger) on the internal combustion engine can increase the intake air pressure in the intake manifold. In this study, an electric blower is used as a substitute for the turbocharger. Yanmar TS 70 diesel engine and Pertamina product diesel engine fuel, namely biodiesel and pertadex is utilized in this study. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of electric blower on engine performance, fuel consumption, and emissions. The research is done by an experimental method using an additional modified electric blower that is connected to the intake manifold of the Yanmar TS 70 diesel engine. Prony brakes are used to measure engine torque at the time of the study. The results showed that the addition of an electric blower increased the torque of the diesel engine by 1.3% with biodiesel and 2.8% with pertadex. The power produced by the diesel engine also increased by 1.28% with biodiesel and 9.4% with pertadex. Fuel consumption with the addition of an electric blower decreased by 17.5% at 1500 rpm and 8.5% at 2000 rpm, but there was an increase in 2500 by 3% with biodiesel, a decrease of 22% at 1500 rpm, 6.3% at 2000 rpm and 3.3% at 2500 rpm. CO decreased with an electric blower by 6.6% with biodiesel and 94% with pertadex HC higher than without an electric blower, this increase occurred at 1500 rpm by 25.6%, 5.1% at 2000 rpm and 2.2% at 2500 rpm with biodiesel fuel. For pertadex fuel with the addition of an electric blower, there was a decrease in the HC value at 1500 rpm by 11.7% and 10.5% at 2000 rpm, but the HC value at 2500 rpm was 4.7% compared to without an electric blower. © 2023 Author(s).
