To promote green transportation by removing the reliance on electrical sources for the water supply of the funicular, this study recommends employing a hydraulic ram pump (Hydram Pump) that can adjust the waste valve load and the height of its stroke. The aim of the study is to optimize both the clearance height of the waste valve and the weight disc on the waste valve to maximize the discharge of the hydraulic ram pump at an elevation of 34 meters. A key challenge is to enhance the pump's performance to generate a discharge rate sufficient for the funicular train route, which has a consistent gradient of 15 degrees and spans 110 meters. The optimization technique utilized is Response Surface Methodology (RSM), examining weight loads of the waste valve at 10 kg, 11 kg, and 12 kg, alongside clearance heights of 16.5 mm, 24.5 mm, and 32.5 mm as the dependent variables to determine the maximum discharge rate. Experimental findings reveal that an optimal clearance height of 35.8 mm combined with a weight load of 11 kg results in a maximum discharge of 66.5 liters per minute. © 2025, Semarak Ilmu Publishing.
