Forming parameters effect toward flange height on single-step incremental backward hole flanging process

Abstract

In the world of the automotive industry, we often encounter flanges in certain parts. Making the flange on a large scale is accommodated by the hole-flanging method. The conventional hole-flanging method requires a lot of investment. The forming tool and the die are essentially required during the hole-flanging process. The geometry of the various and complex flanges will be very unfavorable when the hole-flanging process is carried out conventionally. So with the incremental method, the hole making process can be carried out with a collar using a CNC machine and a forming chisel with a special geometry. The use of this method of gradual plate formation is very suitable for use in flange production processes on a small scale as well as prototypes that require dynamic changes in flange geometry. In this investigation, an experimental study was carried out on the effect of the formation process parameters on the resulting flange height in the incremental backward hole flanging method using 1050 aluminum workpieces. It can be shown statistically that the angle of flange formation has the highest effect, which is 75.35% on the flange height during the process. formation using the incremental backward hole flanging method. © 2023 Author(s).
