Design and development of e-scooter as a transportation mode in campus area

Abstract

State Polytechnic of Malang has a total area of 13.68 hectares. An adequate transportation mode is needed to reach the entire area. As an institution that supports the Green Campus program, State Polytechnic of Malang is actively promoting the use of renewable and environmentally friendly energy in the campus area, one form of activity is to build power stations for electric vehicles at several points in the campus area with solar power plants. To support the Green Campus program and meet the needs of environmentally friendly transportation modes, the design, and development of an e-scooter are carried out. E-scooter is designed as a transportation mode to speed up traveling outdoor or inside buildings within the campus area. The use of e-scooter can reduce pollution in the campus area, both emission or noise pollution. The method used includes designing and developing prototypes. The design process considering strength, comfort, and function. After the design, the developing process is carried out. The driving force of this e-scooter uses a 350 Watt BLDC motor using 39 units of lithium-ion Sony US18650VTC6 with a 13s3p arrangement as the power source. The result of the study is a functional, comfortable, strong e-scooter prototype as a transportation mode for all academics at the campus State Polytechnic of Malang. This scooter can be used in a wider area, for example in office areas, shopping centers, parks, or other public areas. © 2023 Author(s).
