Comprehension monitoring is a method used to trigger reflection. Using comprehension monitoring in the learning process is proven to help student to comprehend their mistakes by themselves. Source connection is an additional function in VIAT-map by following the comprehension monitoring approached. It allowed students to comprehend their understanding by comparing their answer with the reading material. This activity aims to trigger student's self-reflection.. This experiment involved sixty-three students from State Polytechnic of Malang. The hypothesis for this study is that by reconstructing a graphical logic structure of Toulmin arguments and comprehension monitoring function in VIAT-Map will give a better understanding result compared to the usual VIAT-map and the traditional summarization method. An initial test by using three different reading materials was conducted before conducting the experiment. This activity is used to obtain their base reading score then will be used to create three different equal groups, namely control, exp-conf and exp-conn groups. The experiment was conducted for three weeks and divided into several different activities: reading, pre-test, experiment with each group, post-test, and delay Test one week after. The experiment results showed that using source connection function in VIAT-map could maintain the information one week after reading the material © 2023 IEEE.
