Electric power is a very important need in everyday life by human beings. To support this need, many sources of electricity are used, such as petroleum, coal and others as sources of conventional power plants that are not environmentally friendly. Therefore, a system of energy sources is needed to meet the intake of these needs, such as wind power plants and solar power plants. Utilization of wind power as a renewable energy source that has a relatively affordable price can be an alternative to replace electrical energy in the Malang State Polytechnic environment. Meanwhile, the use of solar power sources or solar panels is commonly used by the community. However, the energy obtained from this source is always up and down so that it can cause overcharge. To overcome this, it is proposed to develop an energy switching system based on the results of monitoring from both sources. In this research, a prototype of a switching device for electrical energy generated by wind turbines and solar panels will be designed and built using a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) which is then connected to a microcontroller to obtain the de-sired data. Each node will be given a wireless transmitting device to send data to the server so that it can be viewed in the database and the web in real time. The results of the research show that the use of smart charging is able to maintain the condition of the battery properly and is able to optimally charge the battery capacity based on the method used and Comparing 2 different network topologies used in the Wireless Sensor Network designed to find out which is the most optimal in the system created. © 2022, Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering.
