Abstract

Solid-state recycling of aluminium chips, known for reduced energy consumption, prompts exploration into the mechanical properties of resulting composite materials. This study investigates the influence of holding time, operating temperature, and volume fraction of Oil Palm shells on a composite made from recycled aluminium alloy AA6061. Using a hot press forging apparatus, experiments with varying parameters reveal the significant impact of volume fraction on mechanical and physical properties, second only to preheating temperature. Optimal conditions, identified at 15% volume fraction and 550°C, result in superior ultimate hardness and ultimate tensile strength. © 2024 SPIE.
