The axial mode helical antennas have a compact design and directional radiation mode, particularly for handheld wireless communications systems. However, the axial mode helix antenna has the disadvantages of large size and narrow bandwidth. In this paper, a design of end-fire wideband helical antenna with a parasitic circular patch is proposed. The antenna structure consists of 4 turns and FR-4 ground plane. A copper plate parasitic circular patch placed over the driven helix. Directivity, VSWR, bandwidth, reflection coefficient, and radiation pattern of the proposed antenna are studied. Measured results shows that the proposed antenna has an ultra-wide impedance bandwidth (S11 ≤ -10dB) which covers from 2133.1 MHZ to 2754.7 MHz. The reflection coefficient (S11 ≤ -10dB) resulting value of -52.80 dB at the center frequency and VSWR of 1.02. Moreover, maximum directivity of antenna achieved peak gain of 9.48 dBi. The proposed design achieved a simple structure, ultra-wide bandwidth, and can be used for 2.4 GHz wideband Wi-Fi applications. © 2024 IEEE.
