This article discusses a flexible voltage source inverter control strategy for a small grid-connected PV system. The control scheme employs both a power angle regulation and a voltage regulation approach. The power angle can be adjusted between 0 and 90 degrees by rotating a potentiometer. The voltage control strategy is implemented by adjusting the modulation index of the SPWM. Several experiments have been carried out to test the performance of the inverter. According to the results of the experiments, the amount of active and reactive power injected into the grid is greatly affected by the power angle variation. This also applies to the power factor. As the power angle increases, so does the power factor, which approaches 1.0. Thus, the reactive power injection can be adjusted flexibly to improve power factor. The experimental findings also show that the voltage control has no significant influence on active power flow but does have an effect on reactive power. © 2021 IEEE.
