Abstract

In response to the growing global energy demand, a variety of technologies have been created to deliver more efficient and sophisticated energy systems. The smart grid notion, in this context, refers to the integration and administration of various, economic, social, electrical equipment to provide technical, and environmental benefits. As a result, Smart Energy Meters (SEM) are critical to the successful implementation of smart grids. Currently, manual (conventional) energy meters have been used to assess each end-energy user's use for decades and it has several drawbacks. Many developments of such meters have occurred during the last decade, including power management, power outage management remote monitoring, and load forecasting. Therefore, this study examines existing work on SEM design in general and also simulates the smart energy meter model that will be applied at DC House with bidirectional capabilities. The SEM in this research was created with the help of the MATLAB/Simulink software. The simulation results show that the energy meter can measure the voltage, current, active power, and provide bidirectional energy metering. © 2022 IEEE.
